OK, OK. I realise I am edging a little close to being overly festive at the minute. Two Christmas themed posts within a week.
I’m sorry.
BUT I do like to get a heads start and since moving into my own home I have become just a little bit excited at the prospect of decorating it with polar bears, nodding santa’s and tacky sparkly paper chains.
I’m also determined to try andย make the majority of my decorations so I have some tasteful stuff to detract from all the tacky stuff I will inevitably buy.
So here’s a quick step-by-step of my first attempt at a canvas heart. To be honest I made it a bit too big and so I’ll probably hang it next to the fire-place instead of on the tree, but considering I haven’t actually sewn anything since I was about 11, I’m fairly pleased with myself!
What You’ll Need
- A Needle
- Some Pins
- Some Red Thread
- A Button
- A piece of cardboard (I used an empty graze box
- Red ribbon – I used a nice chequered one I found at Hobbycraft
- Some canvas – I used a canvas bag from Hobbycraft – they are only ยฃ1 and are perfect for a bit of home craft!
- Some stuffing – you can use an old soft toy, buy some from a crafting shop or pull it out of an old pillow

October 15, 2013 - 8:03 amhehe! But just think how good handmade decorations by Kitty and Ozzy would look! ๐
I was thinking of just doing one new one each year combined with bought decorations at first – maybe you should do that? Each member of the family makes one and then each year you add to the collection! Might be a really nice way of showing the changes they make as they get older too! ๐
I will admit though that I am cheating somewhat with the rest. Went to Hobbycraft and they have kits with everything cut out for you already and it’s 3 for 2 so I bought a selection that I can just knock up!
xx
