“Detecting a Little Frustration” – Geeking Out With My First Ever Animation

I couldn’t resist posting this even though it makes me cringe more than ANYTHING.

This was the first ever animation I made at University. I did the majority in Flash with a teeny bit of Photoshopping.

The task was to have at least one main character who felt some sort of tension or emotion (whether it be love, anger, frustration etc.) with an inanimate object.

I actually lost the original and had to re-create this in just under 2 weeks for the deadline. For anyone who has ever tried animating one frame at a time – you will know how frustrating a process it is.

I chose to focus my project on a geektastic hobby that myself and the boy have – metal detecting (ssshhhh don’t tell anyone) and the emotions involved – from the initial excitement when you get a signal (because it’s definitely going to be treasure this time, right?) to the intense frustration at finding another bit of crap.

This is the most embarrassing thing to watch back now because of how amazingly shoddy it is. At one point the clouds completely disappear. And don’t even get me started on the unnatural way this guy bends over! Definite stick-in-arse territory. It’s certainly no Aardman Animations.

But it’s mine. I made it. Just me.

So for that reason alone, I am going to share it with you.

Please feel free to completely rip the piss out of me in the comments below!

Ladies and Gentlemen – I give you “Detecting a Little Frustration”
