Ranty Friday – Sausagey Smears

Why do people feel the need to litter at all, let alone doing it while in motion?

These are all the things that shot through my mind earlier this week as I was casually driving through morning rush hour in central Brighton, CD blasting, happily singing away to my future wedding song (Here Comes the Sun by the Beatles, seeing as you asked) when this happened…

In case you aren’t completely sure what the above is. It is an artists impression (OK, my impression) of me, trundling along in my little i10, when someone throws half of a sodding sausage and egg McMuffin out of their shitting car window.

The “UFO” (unidentified fucking object) came full throttle towards my windscreen, dirty overcooked (yet somehow still slimy) egg splatting all over the bloody windscreen and greasy sausage getting impaled on my wiper blades. Inevitably this made removing the filthy egg using my windscreen wipers near impossible. All I really achieved was a lovely smear mark as I rubbed extra grease directly in my line of sight.

I literally cannot comprehend why people feel the need to throw food/rubbish/cans out of the window especially when in motion.

You are in a car.

There is plenty of space inside a car.

You use cars to get to particular locations.

Locations where there will, more often than not, be a BIN.

You are an arse hole. You are all arse holes.

I would love for it to be perfectly acceptable, and not punishable by law, for the general public to be allowed to bitch slap litterers directly in the face.

And rub other rubbish in their rubbish faces.

I realise that this is not a particularly well thought out argument, but it’s definitely made me feel better writing it.

And lets face it, people who throw rubbish out of cars don’t really need to be defended do they.

Massive twats.

Sorry but I just did a small wee laughing at this.

But I so get your point.

Somebody once threw something out of a car in front of me whilst stuck in traffic on the way to school. So I got out and picked it up and knocked on the window “really sorry but I think you have just dropped this”.

Oh wow…I would so have loved to see that! I can actually picture your face doing it too! I wish I hadn’t been driving so I could have done the same!

    Ahhh, so agree.

And the ones near us deserve a particular hard slapping for throwing food containers into the fields and hedges from a certain fast food chain where the nearest restaurant is 7 miles away! Throw it in their bins or take it home. Don’t litter the rural areas.

      YES Emma!

I live in the country and our hedge, on a very rural quiet road, is STUFFED with those nasty brown paper bags and coke cups! It’s so annoying and actually quite upsetting that they are, essentially, throwing crap on our property!

Don’t even get me STARTED on fly tippers!!!

I’m the sort of person who would dash off down the road after a runaway tissue, so I can never understand the littering mentality a minority of people seem to have. It’s completely unnecessary to throw your litter anywhere other than a bin ever. End of story.

      Exactly Erica!

There’s no defense. No argument. No need to look at it from their side. Because there is just no excuse for not using the appropriate waste receptacles!

Drives me absolutely nuts! My husband had to stop me chasing another car this summer when I saw someone throw rubbish out – he reminded me we’re now in the USA and not UK so the rubbish thrower might be armed!

This is one of my pet peeves too, I cannot bear people who think they’re so above the rest of the world that they can litter, and from cars drives me even more loopy. Although I’m loving that my 6 year old knows this is wrong and runs after people who litter to either chastise them or to give them back what they dropped “here’s that empty coke can you just dropped”.

Surely it’s against the law to throw stuff out of windows – in case it hits someone’s windscreen and causes a crash? My car is often like one big rubbish tip, because I just get the kids to put all their sweet wrappers etc in a pile on the seat next to them, so we can bin it all when we get home. Is that so friggin difficult?

Hate it – and the risk that what I can only refer to as litter picking heroes have to put themselves in to clean it up must make them dread getting up for work today. I take offence at cigarette butts coming out the windows let alone anything else.

I was walking through Greenwich with my 80 year old Gran and a window opened in a parked car, out of which was thrown a snotty tissue, onto the pavement directly in front of us. My Gran swiftly picked up said tissue and popped it back in the window onto the lady’s lap scolding her by saying “we don’t want that out here, thank you!”. Lady was suitably mortified as was the teen me. However the thought of it now makes me smile and the grown up me would definitely follow my Grans example. Love her!

I can’t believe that people actually throw that crap out of their windows…well actually I can, its shocking…but I did have a little laugh all the same… A little boy across the road dropped his ice cream on the pavement outside his house the other day & I was shocked that his Mum never picked it up & took it inside to put in the bin…they just left it there in the middle of the pavement…cone n all!

Made me laugh, but absolutely agree! SO annoying!

    Hmm maybe…

This annoys the living daylights out of me. You’re in a car. Don’t want your rubbish any more? LEAVE IT IN YOUR CAR! It’s not doing you any harm sitting on the passenger seat until you get near to a bin where you can throw it away. Grrrr. People are annoying.
