from Sussex, with love

The little things you miss that are right under your nose

Just over a year ago the OH and I went for a nice Sunday pub lunch and a mooch about our local flea market; a very rare day out, just the two of us. While we were there we spotted this picture. Well, I say picture but it’s actually a table top. One of those lazy Susan types that is made to spin round.

There was something about it that caught our eye, despite it being pretty tatty really just made of a bit of wood covered in paper. We bought it and then decided to hang it as a picture above our stairs and have pretty much forgotten all about it.

It was only yesterday when I wandered very slowly down the stairs (very slowly is about my only speed now I’m nearly 38 weeks pregnant!) that I really stopped and looked at the picture and it made me smile a huge, massive smile.

The picture suddenly, over a year after we bought it, made so much sense to me. The woman looks like me, albeit a skinnier version currently, but she definitely has my hair. Her skinny partner is the spitting image of my OH. The dog is the exact silhouette of the dog my brother rescued a few months back who I adore and then there’s a little boy. Our little boy.

It sounds stupid but I’ve been panicking so much recently about the birth and just looking at this picture has reassured me that everything will be fine. This will be us in a few years, wandering through the woods we live next to with our little man, off to feed the ducks. Everything will be fine.

I wouldn’t say I’m a huge believer in fate but something drew us to this tatty table top that we never quite understood until now. It’s been sitting there all along but suddenly, when I stopped and looked, it all made so much sense.
