A Windy Wittering Weekend

It fills me with serious amounts of joy to say that I am on holiday this week. I haven’t had any time off for a few months and felt in major need of a break. Because we’ve bought a house this year we can’t really afford to go away so when the other half’s parents said they had booked a cottage in Wittering for a week and invited us down for a night we jumped at the chance!

We drove down on Sunday in some serious torrential storms and had a lovely Chinese takeaway together before grabbing an early night ready to hit the beach on Monday. It was SERIOUSLY windy and I nearly wimped out and stayed at the cottage curled up with a book instead, but in true British style we stuck it out and had a lovely day.

Here are a few piccies to give you a taster – starting with a lovely little beach front bungalow. It was nestled between some HUGE, and presumably very expensive, houses. There was something about it’s sky blue door and little pickett fence that was far more endearing and charming than anything else there.

IMG_1561I am not a fish fan, but always end up taking photos of the little fisherman’s huts along the beach. I love the chalk boards even if I don’t love the smell!

IMG_1563Alex had taken along his metal detector and busied himself trying to find treasure with his dad, while his mum did her usual beach glass scavenge as the tide moved out. She has great big vases full of beach glass in her bathroom at home, which look amazing, and Alex’s sister makes her own jewellery using them.

These shots were taken of Alex counting his treasure for the day, which amounted to £3.31 in money, a fishing weight and a rusty padlock! Not the best haul he’s ever had but it was enough for a pint of Darkstar Ale at the pub 😉

The wind got a bit strong for me so I managed to find my way to the local pub for a cheeky fruity cider, but the weather was perfect for all of the locals to get out for a spot of kite-surfing, sailing and windsurfing! The water was willed with people way braver than us! It must have been freezing!

IMG_1767 These are my favorite photos from the day. I have a weird obsession with the symmetry and lines that you can find on the beach. I think it stems back to my photography lecturer at uni who instilled a very strong “Rule of Thirds” and “lines” focus in our work.

IMG_1757 IMG_1721 A similar version of the above photo was taken by Alex’s mum a few years back and inspired one of his sisters jewellery collections which all center around breakwaters!

sophIt was a wet and windy Wittering weekend but the village was gorgeous and it was lovely to get away for the night and spend some time by the sea. It was also great to have some time with the in-laws as we haven’t seem them much since we moved out!

Here’s to the rest of my lazy week off!

    Thanks Annie!

It was really pretty – apparently West Wittering is all sand dunes (but a bit chavvier ;-)) so we stayed East and it was lush!

ps. Sadly my bum doesn’t necessarily agree that we should have a bun break everyday! I’ll wear it down eventually though! :p
pps. oh don’t worry! I know how busy you are (and adjusting to both Kitty and Ozzy being at school!)
